We are often asked "Just how 'green' is Green Design Furniture?" Green manufacturing to us means creating designs that endure - structurally and artistically - to last for generations, without harming either the environment or the people that make or use them. Our work is done using domestically grown solid wood, logged following sustainable forestry guidelines. Whenever possible, our manufacturing waste products are recycled or repurposed. Where Tradition Meets Progress

Inventor and designer Douglas Green established Green Design Furniture in 1993 to explore pioneering approaches to modern furniture design and production. His long-term vision is guided by the belief that honorable design must have an intelligent premise and superior craftsmanship, while leaving a minimal environmental footprint. Our furniture is handcrafted of sustainably harvested American black cherry in our Portland, Maine, workshop by master woodworkers. We continue to faithfully produce and market the unique and novel product Doug first envisioned- authentic contemporary furniture that is as much fine art as collectible heirlooms. Woodworking plans for all types of wood

We have hundreds of unique woodworking plans for the beginner to the most experienced woodworker. We strive to help our customers make top quality woodworking projects. We try to keep our plans simple and to the point, we explain the best way to build a project and the most efficient. We do not require you to have special woodworking tools, most of our plans can be built with tools that the average woodworker would have. Our plans have detailed drawings that show you the size and placement of all pieces. The plans also have templates for any odd shapes or curves that may be needed in the project. Also included on each plan is a material list. The material list will tell you the size of each piece on the plan, and will list any hardware that you will need to purchase. A cutting diagram will identify from where to cut each piece of wood, to use the least amount of material. Refinishing Rattan Chairs

Have four of these which are in good condition (sturdy), but a few of the rattan weavings have come loose. Also the bamboo frame has some stains. I don't want to go crazy working on these chairs, but wondered if some hot-glue would repair the few unraveled rattan, and should I paint them or just try to sand off the stains? Maybe a coat of Poly?? I would make some pretty cushions for the chairs if I can 'clean-up' the chairs.
They are around 30-40 yrs old.

If you know how much it costs to re-cover or reupholster ordinary sofas, and how often that would be needed in many cases, you can appreciate the long-term savings with this furniture. Replacement covers for our fully-upholstered sofa model would be higher than for our wooden-frame sofas, but still far less than neatly-fitting covers would cost for typical furniture.
